Swiss Chard and Sardine Gratin is a decadent recipe featuring rich Gruyère, crunchy breadcrumbs, and a touch of heavy cream. You’ll be sure to impress your dinner guests with this one.   • 1 1/2 lb swiss chard, stemmed
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 8 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
  • 2 shallots, sliced
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 2 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese
  • 1/4 tsp fresh nutmeg
  • 3 eggs beaten
  • 2 packages Wild Selections® Lightly Smoked Sardine Fillets 3.8 oz
  • 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
  1. Boil chard for 1-2 minutes

  2. Drain chard, let cool and squeeze it dry

  3. Heat butter and oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Sautee garlic and shallots for 5-7 minutes

  4. Add flour and cook for 2 minutes

  5. Whisk in cream, milk, salt and pepper. Boil for 3 minutes or until thick

  6. Stir in chard, half the Gruyère, nutmeg, and eggs

  7. Heat oven to 400° and grease an 8×11 baking dish with oil

  8. Spread half the chard mixture into dish, topping with half the sardines. Repeat layering

  9. Stir melted butter and bread crumbs in a bowl. Sprinkle mixture over, then top along with the remaining Gruyère

  10. Bake for 30 minutes
