Celebrate National Random Acts of Kindness Day

February 17th is National Random Acts of Kindness Day, and what better way to celebrate than doing kind actions that can benefit your peers, community, and environment! Dedicate a little or a lot of time tomorrow to activities that will make your community healthier. Here are some of our suggestions for your acts of kindness that will benefit the sustainability of our environment.

Pick Up Trash

Plastic litter causes the deaths of thousands of marine mammals each year according to The United Nations Environment Programme. By simply disposing of your trash properly, you can make a large difference. Unfortunately, not everyone is as considerate with their waste. Picking up litter at your local beaches, parks, and streets can help keep plastics out of the ocean and marine animals’ lives.

Recycle Your Clothes

If you haven’t worn it in a year, it’s probably safe to say you don’t need it anymore. Donating your gently worn clothes can benefit the environment by eliminating part of the demand for newer clothes. This reduces the amount of textiles produced and the natural resources needed to produce them. Recycling your clothes helps the environment similar to the way recycling bottles and cans does. Donating your clothes also benefits those in need, disaster victims, and helps you stay organized.

Shorten Your Shower Time

We all love a long shower, but it is estimated that each minute you spend showering uses up to 5 gallons of water. Shorten your shower by only washing your hair when you need to, or shut off the water when shaving and turn it back on to wash your razor. Cutting your shower time by just 2 minutes can save up to 10 gallons of water – or 3,650 gallons of water a year, as much as 95 bathtubs worth of water! Reducing your water waste helps us conserve more of this precious resource.

Donate to a Worthy Charity

Sometimes you don’t know how you can help, but you really want to. If that’s the case, pick an accredited charity to donate your time or money. They will be able to point you in the right direction for volunteering or put your funds to good use. World Wildlife Fund is one of our partners and a great organization that dedicates its time and resources to global conservation; you can donate at any time here.

These four options are actions you can take any day to show kindness to your community and planet. Click here to learn more ways you can help make a difference for nature.
