19 Jul Lazy Hazy Days of Summer
We’ve waited all winter long to get to the good part – the lazy hazy days of summer! Now that we’re basking in the middle of them, we’ve been looking around for something meaningful to do, something that will capture the essence of this season. Summer is a great time to do something different or to learn something new. Here is our take on things you can do that you can take with you well beyond these lazy hazy days!
Camping & Cooking – we’ve done the hard core backpacking and long treks in our past. Now we enjoy the car camping escapades. You can set up camp without having to worry about every ounce you bring with you. We were inspired by Sunset magazine’s gourmet cooking article to push beyond our minimalist cooking from our backpacking years. It has made camping a lot more enjoyable and definitely more memorable. And all the while experiencing nature at its best – memories that will last!
Gardening – with the desire to know where our food is grown, we have been trying our hands at bringing it hyper local – our own backyard! These days, there are so many options to make gardening easy and simple. From rolling garden boxes to vertical gardening to aeroponics, growing your own herbs and vegetables is very approachable – and fun! And if you are in the mood for a bit more complexity, build your own raised beds and add a chicken coop for fresh eggs all year round!
Volunteering – summer is a great season to help others and your community. Roll up your sleeves and help build home for the needy with Habitat for Humanity. Land a hand to build a playground in the local park. Help teach kids how to make their own kites at the local recreation center. There is nothing like volunteering to make an impact in someone’s life and enjoy the outdoors!
No matter what you do this summer, hope you enjoy it!
